Health-conscious Australian consumers are driving beer manufacturers to produce more innovative offerings across the spectrum. With more Australians seeking to moderate their alcohol consumption, not just drivers, low and no alcohol beers are expected to drive growth for the category.
Taste and flavour remain the key drivers of consumption in beer, and with consumers shifting away from traditional strong and hoppy brews, brands are seeing more growth in lighter and cleaner flavours. Australian consumer palates are evolving, with younger consumers of legal drinking age preferring fresher and more approachable flavours.
Australians are starting to expect sustainability as the default across industries. More beer companies are therefore likely to focus on sustainability over the forecast period as a means of sharing value cues with consumers.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
