  • Given the limited access to safe drinking water in Kenya, bottled water sales remained strong in the country. A high number of households in Kenya, in both urban and rural areas, do not have access to safe drinking water. Local county authorities struggle to provide water services to households, with most households having dry taps for the better part of each year. This means that in many households where there is a water supply, consumers believe that the quality of the tap water is not good enough for consumption. On the other hand, in places where there is a functioning public water system, the distribution channels tend not to be trusted to deliver safe drinking water and, in the case of privately-owned boreholes, the purification systems are often ineffective.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

  • Local player Aquamist Ltd dominates with an off-trade volume share of 24% in 2014. Crown Foods Ltd remains in second position with a share of 18%, mainly due to its Keringet brand. Coca-Cola East & Central Africa Division is in third position with its Dasani brand achieving just over 8% share in 2014.
