  • The spectacular increase in the number of inbound tourists in 2014, which rose to record-breaking levels, and, secondarily, the gradual recovery of domestic tourism, boosted value sales of car rental in Greece. Average transaction value size slightly increased in 2014, with the number of transactions increasing by 17% and value of transactions by 18%, while average rental duration was reduced to four days. Amidst this boom, companies invested heavily in renovating their fleets, and it is estimated that more than €330 million was spent on the purchase of new rental vehicles during 2014; in fact, vehicle purchases from car rental companies in 2014 increased by 30% vs. 2013, and accounted for more than half of total vehicle purchases in the country during 2014.


  • Given the positive potential of Greek tourism, mainly associated with leisure rather than business arrivals, leisure car rental is set to outperform business car rental over the forecast period. Business car rental is anticipated a value CAGR of 2% at constant 2014 prices compared to a CAGR of 4% for leisure car rental. Within both leisure and business car rental, airport pick-ups are set to be the best performers. Insurance replacement car rental will also contribute to growth, with a predicted value CAGR of 4% at constant 2014 prices.
