Domestic player Massar for example launched a PayPerKay app for Android and iOS smartphones in September 2015, with this enabling drivers to pay only for the number of km that they travel, buying "bundles" of km and subsequently topping them up. Instacar also offered an app for iOS and Android in 2015, with this enabling customers to lock or unlock cars using their smartphones, in addition to booking and 24hr road service for breakdowns and emergencies.

  • Business car rental will continue to dominate overall sales in the forecast period, accounting for 62% of value in 2019. This area is expected to see a strong 7% value CAGR at constant 2014 prices in the forecast period, despite seeing the slowest growth rate across car rental. Growth will be supported by ongoing economic growth in the country, particularly in the run up to Expo 2020. Insurance replacement will meanwhile see the strongest growth from a low base with a CAGR of 12%, benefiting from more insurance companies offering attractive replacement schemes as they seek to compete.
