  • Belarus remains a very strong manufacturer and exporter of dairy products, and cheese in particular. According to national statistics, Belarus produced 170,000 tonnes of cheese in 2014, up from 137,600 tonnes in 2013. Most of the cheese produced in Belarus is exported.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

  • Cheese in Belarus is controlled by domestic manufacturers, with only a small share held by importers, which are mainly active in soft cheese and hard packaged cheese. It is worth mentioning that the competitive environment is rather fragmented in cheese in Belarus, with the category characterised by quite low brand recognition. However, the country has strong cheese manufacturers. It is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of cheese production. After Kopylsky Maslosyr Zavod and Lyubanski merged with Slucky Syrodelny Kombinat, it became the biggest cheese player in Belarus. In 2015, Slucky Syrodelny Kombinat led cheese with a 13% share of retail value sales, very closely followed by Beryezovsky Syrodelny Kombinat OAO (13%) and Savushkin Produkt OAO (12%).

  • Numerous new products with health and wellness attributes are expected to drive cheese sales in Belarus over the forecast period. Given the fact that cheese is already considered a healthy and nutritional product, sales are expected to grow mainly via the offer of improved product quality.
