  • Singapore introduced a 10% hike in tobacco excise duties in 2014 to discourage the rising trend of smoking among young people aged 18-29 years. Prior to this, duties on cigarettes and manufactured tobacco products had remained constant since 2005. The 2014 hike saw excise duty on cigarettes rise from S$352 per kg to S$388 per kg.
