Hot drinks sales experienced modest growth in 2023 with the category resuming pre-pandemic consumption patterns. Other hot drinks, specifically the national drink yerba mate which comprises the majority of industry sales also returned to growth.

There is a hot drinking culture in Paraguay, although it is not as prolific as the one for cold drinks, as the summer heat can be intense. Hot drinks tend to be consumed in the morning with breakfast and in the afternoon during meriendas (a second breakfast in the day).
Different socioeconomic groups buy from different outlets depending on what is available in the area in which they live. Moreover, the products they buy are also dependent on what they can afford.
The condition of the roads in Paraguay is variable and dependent on the region. The most developed highways connect Asunción, Encarnacion and Ciudad del Este in the southern half of the country.
Following the positive macroeconomic outlook for the country, the long-term outlook for the hot drinks industry remains strong, driven by a step increase in gross domestic production for 2023 and much slower inflation. The newly elected president Santiago Peña of the centre-right Colorado party since mid-August 2023, will bring a number of advantages including a supportive congress, and will have an important role in expanding Paraguay’s economy in the coming years.
