In addition, “Pec das Domésticas”, a recent law which gave housekeepers the same rights and benefits as regular contracted workers, continued to fuel category growth as many households decided not to keep a regular housekeeper due to it becoming more expensive. As a result, householders had to do more house work, including cooking, thus tending to focus on more practical and easy-to-prepare meals.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

  • Brf Brasil Foods continued to lead ready meals in 2015 with a value share of 51%. This dominance is due to the fact that the company’s Sadia and Perdigão are strong brands with a broad portfolio of products, dominating frozen ready meals, the largest category by far, and frozen pizza. Attempting to bring novelties to consumers, the company has invested in a new frozen ready meal line named “Arroz e Mais”, comprising several types of rice and a mix of other ingredients such as turkey breast, chicken and sausage.
