  • Ray-Ban of DKSH (Thailand) held the largest market share in 2011 and over the review period. The company covers almost one third of the sunglasses market in Thailand (30%) whilst the remaining percentage is ‘others’. Being the classic brand name, it has many loyal consumers of various ages. The reason behind this is the long-established reputation and classic style of Ray-Ban sunglasses, as well as the frequent presence of Ray-Ban glasses in the media especially the well-known Aviator and Way Farer ranges. Thai Hoya is the second largest spectacles company as it is a well-established expert in the field with trustworthy quality.

PROSPECTS

  • The growth of lenses will be faster than frames as lower unit prices will allows users to change them more often. Moreover, many customers choose lower quality frames (unbranded or an imported brand, depending on the customer segment) which they then customise with quality lenses. Buying lenses and getting a free frame will also contribute to the slower growth of spectacle frames.
