COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

  • Unilever Hong Kong retained the leading position in tea in 2013, with a 38% retail value share. This primarily reflects the strength of its Lipton brand over the review period. The company’s sales of tea increased by 8% in 2013, supported by strong growth in green tea (10%) and other tea (8%). Strong branding, with Lipton being synonymous with tea, along with product innovations, helped to maintain Unilever’s sales of tea.

PROSPECTS

  • Whilst black standard tea is arguably a saturated category with limited room for growth, speciality tea may provide opportunities for expansion in black tea.
