About this Report

Executive Summary

TRENDS

  • In 2012, the number of tourist attractions visitors increased by 2% while current value sales increased by 4%. The most important area among different types of tourist attractions remained casinos, which accounted for 43% of the total number of visitors and 55% of total value sales. The fastest growing area was theatres, which recorded a 4% increase in visitor numbers as a result of a vast number of specially organised performances as part of the European Capital of Culture celebrations in Maribor. However, the fastest increase in current value sales was recorded by casinos, with current value revenue in the area rising by 5% to reach €20 million.

PROSPECTS

  • The tourist attraction area is projected to grow slowly during the forecast period, with the number of visitors set to reach 9.7 million and value sales set to reach €39 million by 2017. Casinos will remain the largest area and will be followed by museums and natural beauty places. Natural beauty sites are expected to be among the top destinations for tourists due to the fact that Slovenia promotes itself as a green tourism country.
