According to the Social Characterization Survey (CASEN) the elderly accounted for 17% of the population in 2013, which positioned Chile as a country “in the process of advanced ageing”, under the United Nations characterisation. It is estimated that between 10% and 34% of this increasing elderly population have incontinence issues, with it being more common in women.
Kimberly-Clark Chile SA led adult incontinence in 2016 with a value share of 40% through its brands Plenitud and Poise. Second position, meanwhile, was held by domestic company CMPC Tissue with a 36% value share through its brands Cotidian and Ladysoft. The Cotidian brand took the lead in adult incontinence in 2016 with a value share of 33%, which was thanks to its wide range of products in terms of prices, qualities and ability to address different needs.
Adult incontinence products are expected to benefit from ongoing demographic changes in Chile during the forecast period. Over the forecast period adult incontinence is expected to increase at CAGRs of 5% in retail volume terms and 4% in value terms at constant 2016 prices.
