The new owner of Jože Pucnik Ljubljana Airport, German-owned Fraport Slovenia, has worked on further modernisation and expansion of services to and from the airport. The company has signed new agreements allowing more new destinations and flight frequencies for both scheduled airlines and low cost carriers.
Within the low cost segment, EasyJet recently launched a new route between Ljubljana and Berlin. The low-cost airline operates three fights a week and intends to make Berlin a year-round destination.
In 2019, Slovenia saw increased interest from scheduled airlines such as Aeroflot and British Airways, which have launched new routes and increased flight frequency, together with some other established players. This growth should result in more inbound tourists arrivals, particularly from less developed source markets such as Russia, and further improve overall performance.
