Date: 2nd February 2016
Location: The Mansion House, Dublin 2, Ireland
Conference: The theme of the 2016 Checkout Conference is ‘Think. Learn. Evolve...’.
The focus for the event will centre on how brands and retailers alike need to ‘evolve’ to a new way of thinking, in keeping with changed socio- economic circumstances. We may be out of the downturn, but some of the key factors that influenced shopper behaviour remain (obsession with value, the rise of the discounters, and the growth of private label).
Where is the added value going to come from, and how can brand owners position themselves for the consumer need states of the future? The 2016 Checkout Conference will examine the opportunities open to businesses as we look ahead to the challenges of a new financial year. Always a must-attend event, the Checkout Conference is the longest-running dedicated conference for the grocery retail and FMCG industries in Ireland.
Presentation:
Date/Time: Tuesday 2nd February 2016, 10.30 a.m.
Speaker: Philip Benton, Senior Research Analyst at Euromonitor International
Coming of Age: Grocery Retailing in 2016 and beyond
In his presentation, Philip will provide an overview of the UK & Irish grocery retailing market in the context of regional and global performance. Philip will reveal what Euromonitor forecasts as the key drivers of growth over the next five years for grocery retailing with a particular emphasis on online trends.
Whilst click and collect is more commonplace in the non-grocery retailing, it is still gaining traction in the grocery sector with online shopping set to become increasingly more competitive with the forthcoming launch of Amazon Fresh in the UK. As the onward march of the discounter shows no sign of slowing, Philip will discuss how the landscape of grocery retailing has changed and what Euromonitor is predicting for 2016 and beyond.
