Presentation Title: Toys and Games in a Connected World

Presentation Description:

The rapid proliferation of communication technology has had a transformational effect on consumers worldwide, improving access to information and products, affecting a growing array of buying behaviours. In 2015, annual sales of smartphones reached over 1.3 billion units and they are expected to continue growing as they become ever more affordable in emerging markets. Rising consumer use of mobile communication technology has led to increased interest in video gaming, especially free to play games. There has also been the emergence of many cross-over products that blend elements of virtual and real-life play. These trends will continue into the foreseeable future with increasing sophistication of smart toys. Another consequence of increasing access to technology is easier access to entertainment media, which has fuelled growth in sales of licensed toys worldwide. Together, these trends have turned toys and games into integral parts of the entertainment ecosystem. Consequently, associated branding is gaining importance over product design.

Presentation Title: Untapped Licensing Markets: What Opportunities Lie Ahead in Toy & Games?

Presentation Description:

Euromonitor International’s research provides evidence that licensing is a major sales driver in toys and games. The presentation will dig into what are the star licences and highlight product categories, countries and regions licensing has had the most influence. Perhaps more importantly, we will try to pinpoint which toy categories and markets have been left untapped by licensing players and what challenges these markets present. Despite the global reach of the most popular licences, local and regional entertainment franchises can be strong assets in their home markets and the most popular these licences travel well opening significant regional potential.
