Founded in 1979, the Greater Chicago Food Depository works through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and programmes that address the root causes of hunger. Working across Cook County the Food Depository serves more than 231,100 households annually.
This month ten colleagues from the Chicago Consulting team took an afternoon out of the office to volunteer at the depository. The team spent the afternoon helping with the food repack work, checking expiration dates on donated food and assembling boxes with assorted food. Over the course of their volunteering, Euromonitor volunteers helped to re-package 13,184 macaroni & cheese meals and 2,700 cans of beans. The organisation distributes about 67 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent to 154,000 meals every day a year.
