Global alcoholic drinks growth stalled in 2013 with continuing declines in mature markets being supplemented by softer performance in emerging markets. China’s beer growth propped up the industry, but even here there was negativity in key categories notably whisky and cognac.  Value sales performed relatively better as premiumisation persists to a certain degree, although this also reflected increased costs and taxation. Category performance was mixed and although the forecast for 2014 is more positive uncertainty remains.
