Recently, two groups of Euromonitor staff in Vilnius went to Regional Partner, Rugute, to take part in a volunteering activity. Staff at all of Euromonitor’s 14 offices are given 2 volunteering days to take each year through our CSR programme. Rugute is an organisation that supports families who have experienced childhood cancer. They were formed by Edita and Dainoras Abrukauskai, who began the charity after losing their own child to cancer. As well as supporting research into childhood oncology, Rugute support families directly and also collect medical equipment to be used by cancer sufferers.
During the session volunteers were asked to decorate or paint windmills which would be sold during at the annual Casimir’s fair (Kaziuko mugė). The money raised at the fair is used to sponsor various treatments for children with oncological conditions.
One volunteer commented, “Volunteering at Rugute’s centre was really valuable. Those people do amazing job and help the children to fight cancer in all possible ways. While painting the windmills we found out about the struggles and dreams of those children, what helps and motivates them, and I had really meaningful moments that I will always remember.”
We are really passionate about our partnership with Rugute and look forward to developing our relationship with them over the next year. Rugute are one of a number of regional partners being supported in Vilnius this year, who join the 64 chosen globally!
Our Regional Partners and volunteering initiatives enable us to work towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, part of our commitment as signatories to the United Nations Global Compact.
