Russian Birth Rate above Regional Average

Russia is experiencing a baby boom, bucking the Eastern European demographic crisis following the transition from communist rule. Rapid economic growth, higher standards of living and government policy to encourage more children has resulted in an increase in births since 2007. However, Euromonitor expects this to be a temporary bump with deaths expected to outpace births again from 2017 while the number of women of child-bearing age declines.
