One of the most important factors affecting soft drinks in Bosnia-Herzegovina is the weather. While the 2017 summer was extremely hot and long, with this particularly affecting the supply of tap water in major urban areas, effectively boosting sales of bottled water, the summer weather in 2018 was rainy and cool, thus adversely impacting demand.
Like most soft drinks at the end of the review period, bottled water also performed better in the on-trade than the off-trade. However, the difference in weather between 2017 and 2018 also affected on-trade bottled water sales.
Functional bottled water was the only category to record positive growth in the off-trade in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2018. It was also one of the best performing bottled water categories over the review period.
In GBO terms, Agrokor continued to dominate bottled water in 2018 thanks its offer of various brands, namely Sarajevski Kiseljak, Sensation, Jana and Jamnica. With a wide product range and strong brand names, Agrokor benefits from commanding the most shelf space allocated to bottled water in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Vitinka recorded the strongest increase in value and volume share in bottled water in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2018. This can be attributed to the company’s recent focus on improving availability, while sustaining a strong level of promotional activity during the high season for bottled water, namely the summer.
Bottled water in Bosnia-Herzegovina continued to be dominated by domestic and regional brands in 2018. Some international manufacturers do have a presence in the category but account for only a negligible share of sales.
