Cambodia has, until 2020, had one of the strongest developing economies in Asia. However, the economy is expected to contract by 2.8% in 2020 – after growth of 7.0% in 2019. The contraction is due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic containment measures constraining domestic demand, but is also partly due to weakening global demand and the impact of travel restrictions on the tourist industry. Growth of real GDP will be 6.8% in 2021, and will be around 6.9% per annum through 2027.
