Macedonia is far better known for its high per capita consumption of cigarettes and much less for significant consumption of cigars and cigarillos, which are exclusively imported and have significantly higher unit prices and as such are less appealing to cash-strapped consumers in Macedonia who are increasingly price sensitive.
In 2015 Royal Agio Cigars led cigars and cigarillos with a combined 37% volume share, whilst Corporación Habanos ranked second with a 24% share in the overall ranking but led cigars excluding cigarillos with a 63% volume share. Third ranked in cigars and cigarillos overall was Villiger Sohne with a volume share of 16% as a result of the strong presence in cigarillos, where the company ranked second with a volume share of 24%.
