The year 2018 was yet another good one for edible oils. All edible oil ranges with the exception of corn oil achieve volume and value growth thanks to strong demand.
Most Macedonians have traditionally relied on sunflower oil for cooking. Nonetheless, with the growing significance of the health and wellness trend, some other types of edible oils, including olive oil, are gaining greater attention among local consumers.
Vitaminka signed a deal with Komercijalna banka ad Skopje to purchase the assets of Brilijant from Stip, the leading edible oils producer in Macedonia. The deal worth EUR7 million paved the way for the acquisition of Macedonia’s leading edible oil brand Brilijant.
In 2018, the domestic company Brilijant led edible oils with an increased value share. The value share of the company derives from its category strengths, a strong performance and continued penetration of its eponymous domestically produced sunflower oil brand.
With just over half the share of the leading company Brilijant and its eponymous brand within edible oils, the Serbian company Dijamant was ranked second in 2018 and recorded a stable value share. Just like Brilijant, Dijamant is also heavily present within vegetable and seed oils, more precisely within the sunflower oil range, which is the largest and most popular range of edible oils.
In total value share terms, edible oils has a quite balanced presence of domestic and international companies and edible oil brands. Nearly half of total value sales of edible oils in 2018 derived from domestic companies and their respective brands.
