Following Ta-Ta’s acquisition of all Mimatec SA’s operations, the company began to transform the latter’s Multi Ahorro, Multi Ahorro Express and Multi Ahorro Hogar stores. The transfer of Multi Ahorro supermarkets to Ta-Ta SA is being done quite slowly and might take longer than originally expected. On the other hand, the rapid expansion of Multi Ahorro Hogar stores in 2014 and 2015 has positioned this chain as the second largest in the electronics and appliance specialist retailer channel, despite still low value sales per outlet.
Motociclo SA continued to lead electronics and appliance specialist retailers in 2015 with a 24% share of value sales. Mimatec SA, through its Multi Ahorro Hogar stores, remained in second place but with a value share of just 3%. Motociclo SA has expanded outside Montevideo and its satellite towns where it has more than one third of its 42 stores. Although not covering all provinces, it has also developed its own credit plans and offers credit cards to be used only in its stores, with special discounts that do not apply to standard international and regional credit cards.
Electronics and appliance specialist retailers is expected to post the best performance of all non-grocery specialist channels over the forecast period, recording a value CAGR of 6% at constant 2015 prices. New technologies being incorporated into appliances, the constant evolution of electronic devices and especially television sets for the 2018 FIFA World Cup are expected to boost sales.
