Travel in the Metaverse: Tapping New Audiences and Revenue Streams

The metaverse is the next iteration of the internet, promising to be as disruptive to travel brands and destinations as online booking and mobile web. Despite controversy, some brands are already testing the waters, offering fun, immersive travel experiences and launching brand campaigns in the metaverse to reach new audiences. It is where consumers are increasingly going to socialise, work, play and explore. It is therefore important to understand the challenges, to start shaping how it functions and performs in order to ensure that it is safe, fair, inclusive and sustainable.

Blended Travel- Are We All Getting Remote

The ability to add leisure to a work trip – bleisure – has traditionally been an important growth opportunity in hospitality. The pandemic, however, has transformed bleisure dramatically. While business trips in the classic sense are still below pre-pandemic levels, corporate working policies have become more flexible while the individual interest in traveling remains. New technologies are enabling new possibilities to blur the lines of business and leisure, and hospitality players are adapting. This presentation will mainly cover the impact of pandemic and the digital innovations.

The US travel market is facing significant consolidation in 2024. Currently, there are three major M&A stores in the US travel industry: Jet Blue/Spirit, Alaska/Hawaiian, and Choice/Wyndham. This post-pandemic rush of acquisitions mirrors the consolidation of the US airline industry following the 2008 recession. While travel companies may paint these as beneficial to consumers, the most likely consequence will be higher prices for US travellers.
