Kosovo is one of the poorest countries in Europe. Foreign assistance represents as much as one-third of GDP. The economy is expected to shrink this year as the COVID-19 pandemic weighs heavily on domestic demand, tourist arrivals, exports and remittances. The political situation could reduce the effectiveness of the policy response to combat the economic fallout of the health crisis. Real GDP will bounce back to record growth of 7.5% in 2021, before falling to about 4.0% per year in 2022-2027.
