Mercadona is Spain’s leading grocery retailer. A priority for the company is to develop its online offering, describing its current website as “awful”. To this end in 2018 it invested EUR12 million in an online lab, and a “re-invented” operation in terms of logistics, delivery and website currently testing in Valencia. Mercadona is also refreshing its product range, focusing on locally sourced food. In 2019 it is on schedule to enter Portugal, its first market outside Spain.
