In 2016, mixed retailers experienced the negative effects of reduced consumer spending power due to its focus on non-essential products, resulting from the unstable economic situation in the country. The channel’s development dynamics worsened compared to the review period, as it was affected by the economy factor, and additionally influenced by growing pressure from retailers of modern formats, hypermarkets and supermarkets in particular, numerous convenience stores and outdoor markets in the traditional channel.
Mixed retailers only comprises independent outlets, generally maintained by entrepreneurs owning small stores, which were unable to generate any significant sales. Foreign companies have shown little to no interest in operating variety stores in Ukraine. Branding is not characteristic of such outlets either.
Mixed retailers has good potential for future prospects in Ukraine considering its largely unsaturated nature.
