Naturally healthy is the largest product area within health and wellness beverages. However, there are threats to its growth.
Naturally healthy beverages performed strongly in 2021, after two years of more muted performance. With society opening up again in 2021, there were more cold and sore throats.
Private label gained value share within naturally healthy beverages in 2021. With consumers increasingly price sensitive, they appreciated the affordability of private label and also retailers such as Potraviny Fresh have expanded the space dedicated to naturally healthy beverages, such as NH tea.
Naturally healthy beverages will register moderate constant value and volume growth over the forecast period. Value sales will be supported by consumers increasingly looking for clean labelling, with a minimal list of ingredients and additives, as naturally healthy beverages perfectly fit within these credentials.
NH RTD tea will perform strongly over the forecast period, driven by increased demand for NH green tea, due to its multiple health benefits. However, there will be competition from an unexpected beverage, which is flavoured beer, and in particular non-alcoholic beer.
A growing number of environmentally conscious consumers in Slovakia, along with increased EU regulation, will lead to more sustainable packaging in naturally healthy beverages over the forecast period. In 2022, a deposit system for returning PET bottles and metal cans at vending machines is to be introduced, with certain retailers such Lidl, Tesco and Coop Jednota already testing the system.
