NH beverages continues to benefit from rising health awareness in Vietnam

Rising health-consciousness among Vietnamese consumers continued to drive the positive development of NH beverages in 2018, with NH bottled water, NH tea and NH fruit/vegetable juice all registering double-digit growth in current value sales. This trend also supported the continued recovery of NH RTD tea, which had suffered a sharp drop in demand in 2016 due to a series of product safety scandals.

NH RTD tea set to remain dominant despite recent product safety scandals

NH RTD tea remained by far the largest of the main NH beverages categories in Vietnam in retail volume and current value sales terms in 2018. Demand in this category fell sharply in 2016 after leading manufacturers Tan Hiep Phat and URC Vietnam Co Ltd were implicated in product contamination scandals.

NH 100% juice expected to show the fastest development over 2018-2023

NH 100% juice is projected to be the most dynamic performer within NH beverages in retail volume and current value growth terms over the forecast period. Aside from the underlying trend of rising health awareness, this category will benefit from growing consumer demands for convenience, as buying packaged NH 100% juice is much easier and less time-consuming than making freshly squeezed juice at home.

Tan Hiep Phat continued to lead NH beverages in value terms in 2018. The company remained the clear leader in NH RTD tea thanks to its Zero Degree Green Tea and Dr Thanh brands, both of which are widely distributed and benefit from strong promotional support.

Competitive environment expected to become more fragmented

NH beverages in Vietnam remained quite fragmented in 2018, with multiple players competing in most categories. The relatively high level of fragmentation also reflected the fact that most companies were active in just one or two categories.
