Expedia offers greater value in a bid to boost sales

Expedia is increasingly focusing on offering Mexicans greater value in an effort to capture higher demand in a country where many people remain quite price-sensitive. The major international online intermediary launched Advantage Add On in mid-2018, offering special bundling discounts to customers that purchase packages including flights plus lodging, for instance, or car rental plus lodging.

Cruises and package holidays remain in high demand

Among the most demanded services through online intermediaries during 2018 were cruises and package holidays, with destinations in the Caribbean and Europe among the most popular. The reasons for increasing demand for cruises and packages to the Caribbean and Europe are twofold: affordable prices and the loosening of visa requirements for Mexican citizens in numerous countries in these regions.

The migration to online channels results in traditional players moving towards omnichannel operations

Recent years have seen a huge migration towards online sales in travel intermediaries and this has placed traditional bricks-and-mortar retail travel agents under huge pressure. In response to flagging demand, many store-based travel agents have invested in websites that can offer their clientele an omnichannel experience.
