The travel industry in Russia has seen a number of bankruptcies in recent times, including the country’s oldest travel agency Natalie Tours and airline Vim-Avia in 2018. While the former had a direct impact on the travel intermediaries category, the latter still impacted the performance of travel intermediaries, which had to find ways to get around the airline’s bankruptcy.

There were no major innovations or technologies introduced in 2019. This was due, to an extent, to existing technologies still generally only being at the development stage themselves.

Mobile sales taking off, but not as dynamically as in some other countries

Despite the fact that smartphones are becoming an integral part of life, searching for and selecting a tourist trip through an application can be quite a difficult task. The user would need to review, compare and select options, alongside looking at photos and reading descriptions of locations, sights and services.
