Organic is a major trend in Germany, with organic products moving into the mainstream. Local consumers continue to demand high quality, with organic products known to have undergone strict quality controls.
In 2021, organic liquid concentrates further benefited from the demand for both organic beverages as well as liquid concentrates. The increasing success of soda machines is leading to greater interest in producing carbonates at home.
Bionade has significantly benefited from the rising health trend since the emergence of the pandemic. The local organic lemonade producer has stepped up its game to gain leadership of organic non-cola carbonates from Coca-Cola GmbH in 2021.
In line with the health and wellness trend in Germany, organic beverages will continue to grow in popularity over the forecast period, with this trend being particularly well developed in organic hot drinks. The shift towards remote working or hybrid measures with employees only attending the office for several days of the week, is likely to have a major impact on the development of organic beverages.
Further sales of organic hot drinks in Germany will be driven by growing demand for premium coffee and tea over the forecast period, with many consumers now working from home and looking to recreate on-trade experiences. Indeed, a growing number of consumers now insist on organic coffee and tea.
Organic 100% juice offers further growth opportunities in Germany, while standard juice options are struggling due to sugar content concerns among local consumers. As Germans become increasingly aware of cultivation processes, as well as the types of certification available for fruit and vegetables that can be used in the production of juice, they are increasingly opting for beverages made from organic sources rather than conventional ones.

Organic Beverages
Certified organic products are those which have been produced, stored, processed, handled and marketed in accordance with precise technical specifications (standards) and certified as "organic" by a certification body such as the Soil Association in the UK, the European Union or the US Department of Agriculture. It is important to note that an organic label applies to the production process, ensuring that the product has been produced and processed in an ecologically sound manner. The organic label is therefore a production process claim as opposed to a product quality claim. Note: For organic products to be included, the organic aspect needs to form a significant part of the overall positioning/marketing of the product, including the organic certification label in the packaging. For product category definitions please refer to the definitions section (can be found under the "Help" section on Passport) for the respective system: Packaged Food, Hot Drinks, Soft Drinks.
