Organic fresh coffee dominates organic hot drinks, by far, with sales far exceeding those of organic fruit/herbal tea, the only other category of note within organic hot drinks. Due to the higher shelf price when compared to the regular products, the perception is that the products are premium and super-premium.
In all types of organic beverages, private label accounts for important shares on the separate shelf areas. In most categories, with the exception of organic fruit/herbal tea, private label exceeds the presence of other organic brands.
Organic fruit/vegetable juice drove the strong growth rates in organic soft drinks in Romania in 2021. Organic fruit/vegetable juice remains popular due to its perceived health benefits.
Perceived as premium, sales of organic beverages are expected to maintain an upward trend over the forecast period, driven by fashionable consumption but also by increased availability and more affordable prices dictated by the presence of private label in coffee from main retail chains such as Lidl, Mega Image and Cora. The presence of an increasing number of brands in organic tea is expected to lead to a fragmentation of this category over the forecast period, driven by the growth of e-commerce sales which represent a main channel for organic hot drinks.
All types of organic soft drinks are predicted to show strong growth over the forecast period in both retail volume and current value terms. Organic fruit/vegetable juice will continue to achieve the fastest growth rates.
Local producers of organic beverages are expected to take on a higher profile during the forecast period. This will happen for logistical reasons, as imports of ingredients and finished products may still be disrupted by the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, at least in the early part of the forecast period.

Certified organic products are those which have been produced, stored, processed, handled and marketed in accordance with precise technical specifications (standards) and certified as "organic" by a certification body such as the Soil Association in the UK, the European Union or the US Department of Agriculture. It is important to note that an organic label applies to the production process, ensuring that the product has been produced and processed in an ecologically sound manner. The organic label is therefore a production process claim as opposed to a product quality claim. Note: For organic products to be included, the organic aspect needs to form a significant part of the overall positioning/marketing of the product, including the organic certification label in the packaging. For product category definitions please refer to the definitions section (can be found under the "Help" section on Passport) for the respective system: Packaged Food, Hot Drinks, Soft Drinks.See All of Our Definitions
