Taiwan has a strict zero pesticide policy in order to stop imported organic food products which do not meet the high domestic standards from entering the country. Taiwan has one the largest markets for organic imported packaged food in the region.
Specialist organic stores are the main retail channels for consumers wishing to purchase organic packaged food products. Previously, these consisted largely of small independent stores, although the number of chained organic stores has been increasing.
Organic packaged food is set to record ongoing moderate, if declining, constant 2020 retail value growth over the forecast period. Growth may well be limited by a gradual reduction in imports due to the new regulations around pesticides, while it takes time for local production to gear up.
