The off-trade consumer base for other hot drinks in Bosnia-Herzegovina is dominated by children. Many parents are resorting to other hot drinks to address the fact that their children do not like milk.
On-trade sales within other hot drinks grew more strongly than off-trade sales during the review period. On-trade product ranges and positioning are entirely different, with players in this channel focusing on hot chocolate, while off-trade operators offer chocolate milk.
Chocolate/cocoa-based flavoured powder drinks are the dominant format in other hot drinks both off-trade and on-trade. While the availability of other options is very limited off-trade, on-trade there is more variety, with vanilla, hazelnut, dark chocolate and rum flavoured other hot drinks all being offered.
Nestlé remained the leading other hot drinks player in Bosnia-Herzegovina at the end of the review period, with the company’s Nesquik brand proving to be the most recognisable and trustworthy in the area. Furthermore, unlike most other brands in this area, Nesquik receives sustained promotional support targeting both consumers and parents.
Webb Candy recorded the strongest increase in value share in other hot drinks in Bosnia-Herzegovina during 2018. The company’s Quik Milk Magic Straws brand is entirely different from anything else in the area.
The on-trade competitive landscape is entirely different within other hot drinks, with there being barely any similarities compared with off-trade sales. Nestlé only recently penetrated the on-trade channel with its Nesquik brand but has shown little inclination to grow strongly.
