Paediatric consumer health products carry larger unit prices than their adult counterparts, ranking in sixth place in terms of average unit price of all OTC products available in Venezuela. Parents have learned to administer adult medicines to their children by adjusting the dosage and some are even using veterinarian products for their children and themselves, if facing the choice between not having the product and using a close substitute.

Favourable conditions boost sales of nappy (diaper) rash treatments

The bestselling brand in 2018 was Crema Cero, a nappy (diaper) rash treatment manufactured by Industrias Pañal Express CA. This is likely to be a short-lived phenomenon due to the confluence of a couple of factors that helped boost sales in this category.

Paediatric diarrhoeal remedies sees a new brand

Laboratorios Behrens CA relaunched Rehidrosol in November 2017 by taking advantage of the void left by the exit of Abbott Laboratories (Pedialyte) and Merck SA (Florestor) in 2016. Rehidrosol is an electrolyte solution that helps replenish water and electrolytes lost by acute diarrhoea.
