Personal luxury registered a huge hit in 2020, due to the pandemic. In 2021, with society gradually opening up, including retail outlets, value growth is expected to be in the double digits.
The competitive landscape is highly fragmented and includes a high number of products. In 2020, no company held a double-digit value share of personal luxury sales.
In 2021, with the pandemic still lingering, consumers were looking for affordable luxury as a treat from the endless news of the pandemic. The strongest performer was luxury leather goods, as women in particular splurged on designer handbags.
Personal luxury will register healthy constant value growth over the forecast period. Value sales of personal luxury are still relatively low in Ukraine and there is potential for further growth.
Value sales of personal luxury will continue to be centred in the larger urban areas and in particular Kiev. Women will continue to be the core consumer base, especially for items such as luxury leather goods, designer apparel and footwear and luxury jewellery, as Ukrainian women put a lot of importance into looking goods.
The clear winner in 2020 was digital channels. Consumers, often for the first time, purchased products online, as physical stores were closed due to COVID-19.
