Cat litter and other pet products continue to see moderate value growth in Russia. Cat litter dominates value sales of pet products and, in the forecast period, is expected to see its sales rise further due to the increasing cat population in Russia and rising standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Pet healthcare and pet dietary supplements set to grow fastest

Pet healthcare and pet dietary supplements also continue to achieve moderate value growth, although volume sales tend to remain flat. Although the economising trend remains strong, Russian consumers are unlikely to refuse to help their pets with health issues.

Specialist pet stores dominate sales of pet healthcare

In contrast to pet food, where offline specialist pet stores are in a tough situation, pet shops and pet superstores are key channels for pet healthcare since licensed pet healthcare products are allowed to be sold in such stores in Russia. Veterinary clinics (or veterinary pharmacies) is also an important channel in pet healthcare, although it is still relatively small and growing slowly.

For example, new domestic brand Aromaticat from Afina OOO offers several varieties, made from silica gel or wood chips which are particularly popular with owners of indoor cats for whom effective eradication of odours is paramount.

Cost is key in other pet products, but quality is persuasive

Among other pet products, there is a growing offer of products and the quality is improving. This is helping sales to recover after they fell in the early part of the review period.
