Variety of pasta types expands as consumers look for new options

Healthier options make headway in dried pasta

The growing variety of gluten free, wholegrain and other types of healthier dried pasta is set to be another driver of category development. Currently, in Russia there are no facilities for the production of gluten-free dried pasta and all such products are imported.

New domestic varieties and boil-in-the-bag options set to drive growth in rice

Together with buckwheat, rice is one of the most popular grains in Russia. Both domestic production and imports are important: While most medium-grain rice is harvested and produced domestically, long-grain rice is generally imported.

Doshirak Koya OOO was ranked second in noodles in 2019 with it offering the Doshirak, Kwisti and Ramen brands. Doshirak launched a new seafood flavour under its key Doshirak and Kwisti brands at the end of the review period.

Producers look to gain edge through rebranding

Some manufacturers have invested in rebranding their key brands of rice in order to win over more consumers. Resurs OOO, for example, created a new modern packaging design for its key Uvelka brand in 2018, while Pervaya Krupyanaya Kompaniya OOO introduced a more sophisticated packaging design for its Passim brand.

Domestic rice producers expand their offer

When it comes to rice, domestic manufacturers are interested in harvesting and producing new varieties of rice. These new varieties are providing an opportunity to produce high-margin rice products thanks to growing consumer interest in new and interesting products.
