In 2030, the population of Russia will reach 142 million, an overall decline of 1.4% from 2017. Increasingly negative natural change after 2017, due to falling births and increasing deaths, means that positive net migration will no longer be able to halt population decline after 2021. Moscow is by far the largest city accounting for more than one in 10 urban residents, and will be the only city out of the biggest 10 cities to experience population growth in 2017-2030.
