Retail volume sales declined by 4% in 2015. The decreasing popularity of smoking tobacco is attributed to economic recession in country. Because the majority of smoking tobacco is imported, purchase prices increased significantly due to local currency devaluation. The level of welfare of citizens greatly worsened and power of consumption declined at the end of review period.
In Ukraine, smoking tobacco is represented only by foreign companies. Category leadership in 2015 was maintained by Mac Baren Tobacco Co with a 44% volume share, followed by Al Fakher Corp (10%), Von Eicken (9%) and Swedish Match (9%). None of the remaining players have wide distribution of their smoking tobacco products.
