Soup still mainly limited to instant and dehydrated products

There are still no frozen or chilled soup products available in Ukraine, with very limited shelf stable soup availability – for example there are SmaCom branded products on store shelves, but the Veres brand was withdrawn after a year’s trial period. Demand for these products remains low or non-existent due to Ukrainians’ consumption habits and the unhealthy reputation of non-home-prepared soup among middle-class consumers.

Dehydrated and instant gradually recovering after slumping during the crisis

Dehydrated and instant soup both managed to record positive volume growth in 2019 as they recover from the slump in sales witnessed during the crisis. However, while volume growth will remain relatively muted over the forecast period, it will remain in positive territory as purchasing power rises and delivery services from foodservice players gain in popularity, with Glovo and Uber Eats making foodservice delivery services more widely available.

Instant soup will continue to be consumed in offices

Instant soup is popular among office workers and travellers. It is easy to prepare and transport as well as offering various different flavours.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Leader Nestlé investing in its Mivina brand plant

Nestlé is the clear leader with its brands Torchin and Mivina (as a GBO) in soup in Ukraine. Soup under these umbrella brands are well established and familiar to Ukrainians as products of high quality linked to the Nestlé name.

Velyka Lozhka expands its presence

Velyka Lozhka by Ekotekhnika continued to rank second in soup in 2019. This domestic brand offers French soup, green borsch as well as traditional flavours with chicken, beef and croutons.

Econa offering miso soup and Streetsoup launches HW soup products

Local producer Econa launched a Japanese miso soup that can be used as a separate dish after adding hot water as well as a bouillon in the preparation of other dishes.
