In 2017, the well-established and trusted brand manufacturer Helados Bon launched a new pack type for its fruit-based spreads, namely 430g glass jars featuring a new label which emphasises the regional nature of the fruits used in the products, for example pineapple from Cotuí, strawberries from Constanza and guayaba from Bayaguana. The company’s Bon is already seen as a Dominican brand but these elements are expected to better resonate with local consumers seeking to purchase products of domestic origin.
Helados Bon continued to lead spreads in 2017 with a 40% share of value sales. This position can be attributed to its good reputation and strong recognition of its brands. The company’s main rival was second-ranked Serrana Agroindustrial, which held a 30% value share.
Spreads is expected to continue to record positive growth over the forecast period. Sales will remain steady as manufacturers respond to consumer demand for new and perhaps more exotic flavours, along with the development of healthier spreads.
