KEY FINDINGS

THE FOUR KEY TRENDS THAT WILL REDEFINE THE BUSINESS IN ASIA PACIFIC IN 2020

In January 2020, Euromonitor International published a report Asia Pacific: The New Innovation Hub which showcased some of the key strategic themes across major services and payments industries. This report revisits the impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the four key factors influencing business developments and strategies in Asia Pacific: demographics, urbanisation, connectivity and financial inclusion and how we expect these to evolve in the near to long term as a result of this unprecedented event.

The uncertainty generated by the pandemic is creating downside risks to consumer demand and business investments which could lead to a sluggish recovery in 2021. With unemployment levels increasing in the region, the pandemic is directly impacting disposable income of households across all threshold segments. Heightened uncertainty is set to persist for longer than previously expected and household income will weaken even more. Income inequality is set to be fueled by expansion of lower-income segments.
