A recent consumer appliance trend coming out of South Korea is the rise of the compact or mini appliance. Daewoo Electronics introduced the first wall-mounted washing machine in 2012 with a load size of just three kilograms. Other companies are following the trend with LG recently releasing a mini washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner. The mini trend is catching on in South Korea for several reasons. First, these small appliances appeal to the growing number of single-person households that do not produce large quantities of laundry. Secondly, appliance companies are marketing small washing machines as ideal for gym clothes, towels or other items needing to be washed immediately after use. With consumer appliances saturated in the region, manufacturers are expected to continue heavy promotion for mini-appliances.
