Following the latest release of “Regulation on the administration of credit reporting industry” on 1 January 2022, the Central Bank of China has increased supervision over consumer credit practice, such as what amount of consumer credit information an institution can request when consumers apply for different types of loan.
As the pandemic eases and COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, the robust recovery of consumer credit is expected, in line with the improving macroeconomic environment and the restoration of consumer demand. Supportive government policy and the relatively low non-performing rate are also factors behind China’s potential for development in consumer credit.
Green financing is expected to develop rapidly in China over the forecast period, with the highest growth potential in the areas of solar energy, alternative fuel vehicles and smart home appliances. Commercial banks are introducing a wide range of green financing products to comply with the national carbon emissions mandate and reaching the carbon neutral target by 2060.
