Video gaming has come a long way from the humble arcades in the 1980s to the industry giant it is today. Mobile gaming is a segment that is continuing to see larger growth ever since the advent of the smartphone. Globally, mobile gaming will generate over US $33 billion in incremental sales over 2018 to 2023, supported by continued growth in mobile devices, convenience and affordability. The expanding interest in esports is also fueling growth in the category, with games such as Fortnite gaining massive popularity. Traditional toys and games keep a watchful eye on the video game category, and some traditional companies are attempting to cash in on licensing deals with mobile games.
