At Euromonitor we are working to encourage staff to become more actively involved in the local community. Around the globe, we’ve seen some unique teambuilding activities: chocolate tastings, playing indoor golf, even go-karting! Lately, teams across our offices are turning teambuilders into a community activity.
Recently, our HR/CSR team in London opted to do a community engagement teambuilder. We reached out to one of our CSR partner Big Alliance in Islington and decided to help out in a park in the middle of one of Islington’s large housing estates.
Some participants were wary at first – most didn’t normally spend time digging in a garden. At the end of the three hours digging and hoeing, paths were weed-free and flowerbeds had been cleared and made ready for planting by the groups which work in the garden therapeutically.
Despite any uncertainty, the group enjoyed the experience hugely. When surveyed, all participants marked the activity 8 or more out of 10 and 100% would like to do a community engagement activity again for the next teambuilder.
Next time your team plans an outing, consider volunteering together.
