In this weekly podcast, Euromonitor International discusses the impact of the coronavirus on industries, economies and consumers.

In this episode, we look at the impact of COVID-19 on the sustainability efforts of companies around the world. Over the last several years, companies have made bold sustainability commitments, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed priorities to public health. Sustainable packaging commitments have been particularly affected, with companies pausing the use of reusable containers and some governments lifting bans of single-use plastic.

The economics of sustainability will remain challenging during this pandemic, but the disruption won’t last forever. COVID-19 is demonstrating the impact purpose-driven businesses can have on society and could likely be a tipping point that accelerates sustainable development.
